Melody

Ithaca Today

I was on campus today for the Ithaca Today event for admitted students. When I was walking towards the business school from the parking lot, I heard the most beautiful music. I wasn't sure if it was a planned part of the festivities. Looking around for the source of the melody, I realized it was coming from a harmonica played by this young woman in the red shirt. It was such a delightful experience. I'd love to hear calming music everyday when walking to my office!

Dela-WHERE? Delaware

A colleague and I were in Newark, Delaware for an assessment seminar. George had forgotten. When I called him from the hotel on Tuesday evening, he thought I was joking after he asked, "Where are you?" and I replied, "Delaware." The trip (via car) was long, though thankfully, I wasn't driving, and the seminar was OK. Unfortunately, it was such a quick trip, I didn't have time to take even one photograph, and there weren't any postcards in the hotel gift shop. Oh well, I am glad to be home!

Licking the Plate Clean

Picnik collage

Walter is not supposed to have people food, but we flout this rule in the morning when I let Walter lick the leftover milk in my cereal bowl. This system has worked well for us - perhaps too well! I found out that if George saw a bowl on the counter, he put it back in the cabinet thinking it was clean. He'd been doing this for who knows how long until he finally noticed a tongue smudge in a bowl he was putting away. Talk about a closed loop!

Patrick Update

Patrick is doing very well! Look how sweet and serene he is despite the horrors he endured. Keep up with his progress at The Patrick Miracle, a page on Facebook. Garden State Veterinary Specialists is posting new photos on Shutterfly.

Remember that Patrick is only one of many animals who are abused and neglected each year. Patrick is in good hands right now, but many other animals -- farm and domestic -- are not. Please advocate for tougher animal cruelty laws and volunteer or donate to your local shelter.

Ice Cream Sundae Anniversary

Enjoy a vegan ice cream sundae today on the anniversary of the sundae's creation! While other cities have claimed to be the birthplace of the sundae, Ithaca has an extensive archive of evidence to support it's assertion of the title.
